Brooke O'Neill

On the 10th of November Hamish and I hosted the NewstalkZB show “The Nutters Club.”

We talked with Brooke O’Neill about her experience of postpartum psychosis just days after the birth of her first child. She was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and prescribed Lithium to treat the symptoms. O’Neill talks about 13 years of chasing the high, or manic symptoms, which ended in a suicide attempt. At this crisis point, she entered respite care and peer support which began her journey to more stability in life and to her career as a nurse in the centre she was treated in. Her book, “Spiders, Vampires and Jail Keys – a story of depression, mania and losing my mind” is O’Neill’s account of the highs and lows of living with Bipolar.

With thanks to NZ on Air.
